The Sovrin Indoor Aquaponics System
The objective of this project is to show how individuals and communities could sustain themselves using innovative forms of agricultural production. By building a low cost aquaponics unit we can mitigate agricultures effects on climate change, localize food production in any area, and simultaneously bring users to understand the complex symbiotic relationships that keep our planet hospitable. Conventional food production, from farming to livestock, is one of the most significant sources of environmental destabilization. Using new practices, such as aquaponics, citizens can have the power to make a difference in the fight against climate change. This system also has economic benefits for adopters as food costs rise and access to affordable high-quality food dwindles. To illustrate the possibilities and efficiency of a system like this, i plan to build an individual scale aquaponics unit that could function indoors and outdoors which could fit into small spaces in densely populated urban areas. Another goal for this system is to provide a minimum of 75% of my food needs for approximately one year and cost less than $1000 to build.
